The Past
The Dana Outrigger Canoe Club was established in 1971 by the legendary waterman Lorrin "Whitey” Harrison.
The Future
We offer programs for YOUTH, first-time paddlers, and experienced paddlers of all ages.
Each Year, We Welcome
NEW Adult members: Join our Novice program, which begins in February
Adult Women’s and Men’s programs start training in March
Junior paddlers, ages 15-19, begin their training in June
Keiki paddlers, ages 9-14, begin their training in June

OUR MISSION
The objective of this Association is to encourage, maintain, and perpetuate outrigger canoe racing and the rich Pacific Island culture and traditions that are rooted in this sport.

Then, join us at Baby Beach in Dana Point Harbor.
Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m., starting the first weekend in February and lasting through the end of March.
Pre-register by downloading, completing, and printing the Novice Waiver. Please bring your printed copy to the beach on your first day paddling.

Whitey Harrison Classic - 9/9/25
Race Day Information - Race Packet
The Whitey Harrison Classic is a 20-mile, 9-man outrigger race hosted by Dana Outrigger every August. The race was first run in July of 1971 from Newport to Dana Point Harbor as part of the Harbor’s Opening Ceremonies.
Now, the race runs from just outside the mouth of Dana Point Harbor to Main Beach in Laguna Beach and back.
This event draws over 900 competitors in 19 divisions, ranging in age from 12 to 70. The festivities take place at Doheny State Beach.
